Folded Carpet Edge

I usually put weight on the strip to hold it in place while the adhesive cures overnight if possible.

Folded carpet edge.

Continue to pull the outside edge of the carpet until the fold lies just past the carpet side. Then it s just a matter of applying construction adhesive to the strip and pressing it into place overlapping the edges of both the tile and the carpet. If the straight edge is wide and long enough kneel on it with one knee to hold it down. Standing on the carpet near the join pull the edge towards you so the carpet folds over on itself.

Use your knee kicker to kick the carpet over into place so that you will have some extra to work with. Before folding the carpet i apply a bead of construction adhesive to the under side of the flap so that the carpet will adhere to itself. Use the tucking tool to secure carpet at the back of the tread and as needed under the nose and along the sides. You will need to use your utility knife to cut the edge of the excess carpet off.

Once you have the cloth stapled onto the carpet fold the cloth around the edge over the staples. The idea is to weaken the bottom binding. Turn the carpet facedown and place a metal straight edge along the edge of the carpet to be folded. Grab the edge of the carpet and push it over onto the tack strip.

If the straight edge is wide and long enough kneel on it with one knee to hold it down. Step 4 hold the straight edge firmly in place. The tack strip should come up through the carpet and hold it into place. Press the folded carpet piece over the tacking strips.

Leave 1 inches of the carpet showing between the straight edge and the edge of the carpet. After making the fold i sharpen the crease by going over it with a hammer. Do not cut through the bottom. Flip the carpet over so the back is facing up with the cloth kind of fanning out along the edge.

Hold the straight edge firmly in place. Put a bead of latex or glue along the edge just a little bit till you get the hang of what you re doing then you can advance to maybe doing a foot at a time. Leave 1 inches of the carpet showing between the straight edge and the edge of the carpet.
